Furnace Installation

A properly sized, high-efficiency furnace is the backbone of winter comfort in the mountains. We install it right the first time so you never have to think about it again.

Western North Carolina winters are no joke. Temperatures routinely dip into the teens and single digits at higher elevations, and a furnace that can't keep up isn't just uncomfortable — it's a liability. Fair Air Heating & Cooling installs high-efficiency Trane gas furnaces built to handle the demands of mountain living, and we size every system specifically for your home.

We're a Trane dealer because their equipment consistently delivers the reliability and efficiency that WNC homeowners need. Every furnace we install carries an AFUE rating of 95% or higher, meaning at least 95 cents of every dollar you spend on gas goes directly toward heating your home. That's a meaningful difference on your utility bill compared to the 80% efficiency common in furnaces installed 15 to 20 years ago.

Whether you're replacing an aging system or installing a furnace in new construction, we handle the full process from load calculation through final commissioning — and most installations are completed in a single day.

Time for a replacement?

Signs your furnace needs replacing

No furnace lasts forever. If yours is showing any of these symptoms, a replacement will almost always cost less in the long run than continued repairs on aging equipment.

Your furnace is 15 to 20 years old — well past its expected service life

Repair bills are becoming more frequent and more expensive each season

Some rooms are warm while others stay cold — a sign of declining output

Your gas bills keep climbing even though your thermostat settings haven't changed

The system runs constantly but never quite reaches the set temperature

You hear banging, rattling, or popping sounds when the furnace cycles on

What to expect on installation day

Before we arrive, we've already done the homework. Every furnace installation starts with a Manual J load calculation — a room-by-room analysis of your home's insulation, square footage, window placement, and elevation. This determines the exact heating capacity your home needs. Oversizing wastes energy and causes short-cycling. Undersizing leaves you cold. We get it right.

On installation day, our crew arrives with everything needed to complete the job. We remove and dispose of the old equipment, install the new Trane furnace, connect all ductwork, gas lines, electrical, and venting, and then run a full commissioning test. That means checking gas pressure, airflow across the heat exchanger, temperature rise, thermostat calibration, and safety controls — every detail the manufacturer requires for a proper installation.

Most single-furnace replacements are completed within a single day. You'll have heat by evening. We also walk you through the new system, show you where the filter goes, and make sure you know how to operate everything before we leave.

If you're considering whether a furnace is the best option for your home, it's worth knowing that heat pump systems can provide both heating and cooling from a single unit — and they're increasingly effective in WNC's climate. We're happy to walk you through both options so you can make the right call for your household.

Every installation includes upfront pricing with no hidden fees, manufacturer warranty registration, and the knowledge that your system was installed by technicians who do this every day in Asheville and the surrounding Western North Carolina communities.
